    Description

Each of these 6 square plates measures approximately 5 5/8" by 5 5/8" by 1" in height. They are marked on the back with Patd April 2d, 89. I found plates in this identical shape, with the shell motif in the corners, and with this mark that were also marked T&V for Tresseman & Vogt of Limoges, France. The other set also had a large rectangular platter, and was intended as a fish serving set, as these may have been as well. This set is also signed on the back by the artist, Mrs. Michael Roark, who I think was a very talented amateur. She also marked her address in Lowell, Massachusetts, and very faintly underneath, the year 1894. Four of the plates have different scenic vistas featuring lakes or streams, and two have different flora painted in the center. One of the scenic plates has a long hairline crack measuring over 3 inches. Another of the scenic plates has a wide chip on the inner rim of the foot. The other four plates are free of chips and cracks. There is minor surface wear to the set. Please see my pictures, and thanks for looking!
