    Description

    TAYLOR BROTHERS
16 inch plate 3-3/4 inch depth of cut
    Tenon Backsaw
    12 point filed hybrid
    1880-1900
Taylor Brothers was one of most prolific saw makers and the same class as spear & Jackson and lots of detailed info can be found on the maker. Like many of the Sheffield makers Taylor Brothers hand more then one location. The inchworm "made for use" stamped in the back puts this saw around 1888.
The 16" brass back has a nice weight and heft to it. Well suited for tenons or carcase work. The saw over all is in great condition with some cosmetic apologies. The handle is very sold with an owners mark stamp, a few scratches and a nice patina. The very tips of both horns had chips and although it wasn't bad I decided to touch them up. It's a nice saw and well worth the extra time. The 12 point hybrid cut was freshly sharpened with sloped gullets to aid in smooth cuts with less feedback. The hybrid filing allows for both cross cuts and rips. It's a popular filling for tenon or general use. The saw has been tested and ready to go out of the box.
Have a look at the photos and details below. Let me know if you have any questions. She's an old gal but but still a nice user with an interesting history.
Now on instagram! @ secondchancesawworks have a look of what's on the bench.
    ABOUT THE SAW
    HANDLE:
Ornate English beach handle. One look is all you need to know this saw was made in
    Sheffield.
    T
he handle has a few marks and stains from age but otherwise its as it should be. the very tips of both horns were chipped and I've repaired with epoxy. This was a cosmetic fix. The handle is very sold for it's age. The split nut hardware is in good shape and tight to the plate.
    PLATE:
Straight and clean with some stains. The back was knock on for some time. When I adjusted it back you can see a slight line at the plate. its an old plate with marks and stains, nothing deep that would effect cut
. I take great care in my sharpening process and don't simply sharpen and list. After the saw is sharpened I test cut then tune as needed for best use. The 12 point plated was filed hybrid with sloped gullets. Perfect for both cross and rip cuts. The saw makes
clean cut with a nice finish. Easily cleaned if need be.
Please excuse any dust in the pictures the saw will be wiped down before it's mailed. After looking over pics let me know if you have any questions.
    WHY BUY FROM ME
The goal with every saw I offer is to bring back the beauty in direct proportion to its overall condition
.Each one is checked before it’s sharpened and tested then tuned as needed. It's true I do this for profit but I've got a passion for saws that anyone who's talked with me know.  I stand behind what I sell! It’s as simple as that. If you're not happy contact me and I will refund or work it out. I don’t tend to sell at auction rather I sell a top quality saw at a fare price. It’s what I demand, and what you should as well. My description don't spend time saying I'm the BEST or have a god like ability with a file, I don't trash other seller rather I try and to stick to the topic at hand— some history, details, and a few jokes. I'm very good at what I do because I've learned from others and practice a lot. I have love for what I do and I think if you take the time to read my blog or follow me on social media it come through. That passion I feel tips the scales in my favor and I hope gets you to try one of my saws.  Rest assured if it doesn't go to your liking with mine or another sellers saw I'm here to make it good.
I offer restoration and sharpening services. Please contact me or look me up on the web.
If you like to read more about my process and all things saws please read my blog positiverake or find me on Facebook
    NOT SO FINE PRINT
Please carefully review the pictures, I have done my best to describe things as I see them. ALWAYS feel free to email with any questions and I will do my best to answer them.  I make every effort to ship next day after payment M-F.
I now use the ebay calculator that allows local customers a better rate then a single flat rate coast to coast.
I'm happy to combined shipping but please contact me BEFORE payment so I can combine
I accept returns up to 14 days
. I do not charge extra for shipping but do charge .50 to cover the cost of the box. These older saws can damage easily and I find it's better to use a custom box rather then recycle ones.
Please take a second to look at this and other saws I offer. I put a good deal of effort into each saw and I want you, the buyer to be happy. E-mail with any issues and I will do my best to resolve them in a peaceful way.

Thanks for look and I invite you to read my feedback, It’s a gift and you should bid with confidence based on it.
