Here is a set of fine saws for the woodworker who demands the finest. Both are Atkins Silver Steel which is highly tempered with the Damaskeened finish. Both are 26” blades freshly restored and hand sharpened. Both handles are in fine original condition with no issues and have a comfortable grip. They are both large saw plates with a lifetime of use left in them. Both saw plates are very clean with no rust or pitting anywhere on them. These are both freshly hand sharpened by me and are fast smooth sawing saws.
This large 26” rip saw is from the early 1900’s with 6ppi and is freshly hand sharpened. It is sharpened with a 5-degree rake angle and lightly set to produce a smooth fast sawing action, effortlessly following a straight line. It is a perfectly straight, very clean skewed back saw plate with an aged shine, with a clear etch. It is a large saw with 7-1/2” width at the heel and an aggressive fast sawing saw. The fine applewood “Perfection” style handle is in original condition with all of its heavy factory finish and delicate vine embossing. The previous owner did add his mark by carving 2 notches inside the grip – nothing that feels uncomfortable in use. It has nickel plated hardware with the early “set in” medallion with the 1887 patent date for the saw nut design. It has full long flowing horns that lock in your hand for good comfortable control when sawing. This is a saw set up and ready for use in your wood shop.
The crosscut saw is a 7 ppi pitch – a good saw that will quickly eat through the thicker woods for cutting to size before working in your shop. This is a large saw from the early 1900’s era in excellent condition and ready to use. It is a perfectly straight saw with 7- 1/2” at the heel. It is a dark gently cleaned blade with a light etch and dull shine. The apple wood handle is perfect with a natural patina and original finish. It is a solid handle and very comfortable – locking in your hand with long flowing horns and “hump back” handle. I jointed and sharpened the teeth with just a slight set to glide smoothly thru hardwoods as well as softwoods. I tested it on soft mahogany and white oak here in the shop and it cut straight and smooth.
Both saws are great saws for the woodworker who wants good useable saws that will last a lifetime.
