    Description

VERY RARE!! Wahl Eversharp Coronet Fountain Pen & Pencil Set - Both Working!! Lovely Set!
    (please read everything)
Take the art of writing to a new level with this vintage Coronet fountain pen and pencil set. Gold-filled with a Semi Flex 14K gold nib.
**** The pen and pencil have engraved personalization and they don't actually match each other (not the same name). Most of these pens were engraved because that is what Jewelers do and it is very rare to find a set that isn't personalized. This is the biggest flaw we can come up with. The pen otherwise is in stellar shape, it writes with a lovely flex and smooth action and gives an easy line variation from extra fine to at least double broad. ****
The Wahl Eversharp Coronet has been called the most art deco pen ever made.  Announced in 1936 in an ad with the headline
    "Gold is back!"
the Coronet was the finest pen in the Eversharp lineup, selling in 1936 for .00, with a .00 premium for an adjustable point (which has a large slider).   A presumably later catalog page shows the pen, model 16730, for .50 and the matching pencil, model 13430, for .00.
The full gold filled engine turned cap and barrel pen came in two versions, one with black or red pyralin showing in the triangular shaped cutouts in four places: the cap top, cap lip, barrel top and barrel end.  If you look carefully, you can see that this is the black pyralin model.
Pocket jewelry to the max. As the country climbed out of the Great Depression, pen makers sought new ways to place their wares firmly in the public eye (and pocket). In 1936, the Wahl Company apparently saw luxury on the horizon, and for Christmas that year the company created a new model line wrapped in precious metal.
The pen was as bold as the “GOLD IS BACK!” claim, and it lasted in Wahl’s line into 1941. Based on a pencil design done for Eversharp by famed stylist Alfonso Iannelli (U.S. Patent No D103,402 for the body and U.S. Patent No D104,687 for the clip), it embodied the pinnacle of Art Deco styling — probably better than any other pen before or since — as echoes of the iconic Chrysler Building abound in its straight lines, angles, and geometric cutouts through which peeks “Pyralin trim” in black.
Departing from the custom of the time, Wahl made the Coronet in only one size. All-metal pens are approximately 51⁄16" long capped and 515⁄16" posted
Coronets are rare these days, and they are correspondingly expensive. At least part of their rarity, insofar as the all-metal pens are concerned, is that their construction is slightly different from that of ordinary pens; the section and the clear portion of the barrel are a single piece that must be removed from the barrel when the pen needs resacing. Attempting to separate the section from the threaded part will break the pen, and doubtless no small number of Coronets have died in this manner. There seems always to be an exception, however, and the exception to this rule is a small number of pens made probably in 1938–1939, in which the section is fitted into the barrel in the usual manner. This ambiguity adds to the potential for disaster.
The most likely, and most noticeable, defect on all-metal Coronets is a posting ring that can be very severely disfiguring if the pen has seen a lot of use. There is only mild signs of use and wear from the pen cap being posted on this pen. Please view all photos as they will give you the information regarding the condition of the pen and pencil.
This pen and pencil set is in stunning condition. It is coming from a collector's own pen collection where the pens are taken care of with the highest standards and actually are loved pieces of art. The collector has amassed many pens over the last 30 years and has decided to thin out the collection by selling off some items here on ebay.
We are setting the listing up as a Buy it Now with make an offer as an option. Please don't hesitate to send an offer if it is reasonable. We are pricing this pen & pencil set according to it's over all condition, it's quality build and the fact that it's not often found let alone in such great shape. We fully expect that this set will sell quickly - There is one other set listed on ebay right now priced much higher than this set and it's lever filler doesn't work. We are selling all pens as is. We will point out any flaws that we are aware of and if a problem should arise after purchase we would like you to contact us before anyone else so that we can help make any error on our part correct. We are experienced ebay sellers as individuals but we are just starting out with this particular account as a partnership so we don't have any ratings yet, but if you need to see our other sites for positive feedback, just send us a message and we will get you that information.
