HEAVY DUTY SAW VISE, STANLEY SAW SET & EXTRAS
Here is a good saw vise for the woodworker who wants to sharpen their own saws. It is a good heavy-duty portable saw vise. A good saw vise is a must for the unplugged woodworker and this is one is in good user condition. The vise will clamp to a workbench and is very sturdy. It can be set up at different angles to assist with sharpening with sloped gullets.
It has a 9-1/4” length saw clamp that closes even and tight. I put blue painters tape on the inside of my jaws so I don’t mar my newly cleaned blade while sharpening. This vise locks tight to a bench with a large clamp to secure it with a large thumbscrew to assist hand tightening. It has been taken apart and inspected – clean with no problems. With it comes a Stanley No. 42 saw set in fine working condition that can be used with different size saws crosscut or rip and back saws.
I tested it out and it works fine with a good spring and crisp hammer and anvil. Also included is a file jointer. Using this tool to even out the height of all the teeth is the first and very important step.
I also included some used saw files with some life in them. I heard you can soak the files in vinegar overnight and get some more life in the sharpening edges.
Practice on some junker saws with these and get the good expensive ones for your good saws when you have the technique down.
I will have the vise disassembled and ship all this in a large flat rate box.
