DISSTON PATENT APPLIED FOR 1914-1916 IMPERIAL SAW TOOL
(Inv no 0673 0594) used for sharpening two-man crosscut saws. It combines a raker gauge and a jointer. The raker teeth remove shavings that the cutter teeth have severed from the wood. For a saw to work best the raker teeth must be adjusted to type of wood and other factors. The depth of the rakers below the cutter teeth was determined by using a tool called a raker gage (gauge) or raker depth gage (gauge) (Warren Miller, Crosscut Saw Manual). A jointer
was used to level the teeth on rip and crosscut saws. It held a file and as it is drawn along the length of the blade it files (levels) the teeth prior to sharpening. It is marked PAT AP D FOR. Disston USA. The application was filed June 20, 1914 and the patent (No 1,204,264 )was granted November 7, 1916.
