    Description

This auction is for an antique London Pattern saw which is stamped Robert Fulton Co. German Steel. Not to be confused with The Fulton tool Co. later 1800's. I picked this saw up at a local auction several years ago in a stack of antique saws. It was wrapped in an oil dimpled rubber mat. Hence the round stain marks on the plate. I cleaned the plate just enough to find the Robert Fulton Co.  and partial German Steel stamp on it. The interesting part is that Robert Fulton was born and raised in Lancaster Pa. which is approx.1 hour from my location. Robert Fulton was a prominent inventor in the later 1700's and early 1800's. He did travel to the UK and Europe twice during his lifetime pitching his nautical inventions to them. The majority of early saws were made there more than here in the US. My thinking is that he had possibly purchased these saws during his trips and had the manufacturer stamp with his company name on them. The saw is at least 200 years old. It resembles the Kenyon saw that were made in that period. The saw has approx.6 and 1/2 ppi. and has a 26 inch plate. It does have some wiggle. There is a chip on the underside of the top horn. I'm selling this saw as an antique saw and the information given is only my observation and ideas. The time period and location does match, but I have no provenance on it. It may be of historical significance, but its time to let it go. Please check it out and do some research before bidding. If you do find any information on it, I would really like to hear from you. Thank you.
