    Description

    This is a great sized
    ryoba-nokogiri
professional grade Japanese carpenters saw from the early Showa era (c. 1930's).  Super light weight and versatile with a rip blade on one side and a finishing blade on the opposite.
Unlike European saws which cut on the push stroke this is the
type of saw used in woodworking and Japanese carpentry that cuts on the pull stroke. This allows it to have a thinner blade that cuts more efficiently and leaves a narrower cut width (kerf) as well as a higher degree of control and accuracy impossible to obtain with western "push" type of saws.  Because the blade is in tension during use, it can be thin and hard.  This means a very sharp edge and exceedingly thin kerf. Ryoba Noko Giri are the mainstay of the Japanese woodworker.
It has the signature of the master blade maker etched into the blade (see picture 6).
They have fine cross-cut or finishing teeth on one side and rip teeth on the other. Made of high quality
    laminated
carbon steel and carefully milled by hand by a Japanese blade maker.  N
ote the smaller teeth toward the handle end of the blade (see picture 5).  This was used to help make an efficient starting cut before proceeding with the larger teeth.  The long
    kiri
(paulownia) wood handle helps to give a very straight controlled cut.
With exception of signs of past use, a couple slightly shortened teeth, and some patina and slight oxidation, this Ryba nokogiri is overall
    in
    good condition
throughout with sharp teeth as seen in the enlarged pictures.
Measures 26" overall (66 cm). With a blade length (teeth area) of 10" long by 1 1/2" wide (25.5 x 4 cm). Old world craftsmanship for the new world craftsman!
Once you have used a Japanese nokogiri saw you will never go back to a western push type saw!
You'll love it, I guarantee it
