Antique Henry Disston & Sons backsaw from the latter part of the 19
th
century.
The gold medallion on the handle with the manufacturer’s logo dates it to 1871-76, according to the “Disstonian Institute” website.
It reads “H. Disston & Sons,” (with no period after the “Sons,” as on earlier medallions) surrounding the keystone and scales. The final “A” on “PHILADA” is the same size as the previous letters, unlike earlier models. The outer edge of the medallion is sanded flush with the handle wood and the design retains the circle of dots around the perimeter.
Saw blade is 12” long x 3 ½” wide (including back edge). With handle, entire tool is 17” long.
