Description
G.W. Green, Urban Forester/SawyerI’m located in Northern Indiana, directly in the heart of the Central Hardwood Forest, known for its great diversity of hardwood trees (188 native and introduced species). My business is obtaining logs from unwanted trees; yard trees, highway projects, storm damage, etc., and producing high-grade kiln-dried hardwood and softwood lumber.
Mine is a home-based business utilizing a Wood-Mizer portable bandsaw mill and three solar-powered drying kilns.
Most of my lumber goes directly from the kiln to the planer where it is surfaced two sides then sold primarily to building contractors, smaller production shops and amateur woodworkers.

Beech Plane Making Blanks
These are clear blanks sawed oversize and dried for over a year, defects culled and cut to sizes recommended by renowned plane makers - 3-1/4 x 3-1/4 (rough-sawn) x 12 or 20" lengths.
These are carefully selected with most of the log going to firewood.
These will be straight grained but no guarantee as to grain orientation across the end.
The experts tell me this makes little to no difference.
Most of these will have a bit of color variation, possibly a bit of mineral coloration.
These have been out of my solar kiln for at least six months and are stored in a humidity controlled environment.
